Beautiful handmade medium sized (24,0 x 15,3 cm) porcelain vase made between 1979 and 1990 by Kaiser Porzellan in Bad Staffelstein, Germany.

The vase is decorated in Egyptian style using gold, light blue, dark blue, chestnut brown and cream yellow colours, with black outlines. The decorations have been applied on-glaze by means of transfers. The decoration is of high quality, exceptionally detailed and ornate with beautiful, strong colours.

The vase is marked underneath in gold with an on-glaze transfer printed AK Kaiser W-Germany mark (used between 1979 and 1990), the decor name ("Theben") and a description in both German and English of the decoration (Motive aus dem Leben des Pharao "TUT-ENCH-AMUN" / vividly portraying scenes from the days of Pharaoh Tut-Ankh-Amun). The vase also has a small on-glaze transfer printed number (52) of which the meaning is unknown to us.

Condition: excellent, as new. The vase has no damages or defects and the on-glaze decoration is in an excellent condition, without any visible wear. The colours are bright and strong. The inside of the vase is also very clean, as new.

A very beautiful high-quality porcelain vase, which will look good in a variety of interiors, from classic to modern.

About Kaiser Porzellan:

In 1872 August Alboth founded a porcelain decorating business in Coburg, Germany. The firm was known as "Porzellanveredelung August Alboth". His son Ernst joined in 1875. After August Alboth retired in 1898, the factory was relocated to Kronach. Ernst Alboth had two children - son Willy and daughter Erna. Erna in 1922 married the Munich banker Georg Kaiser, who joined in the company management. After Ernst Alboth died in 1927, the company name was changed to "Alka-Kunst", a combination of the first two letters of each family name.

The Alka brand quickly gained a reputation for quality craftsmanship and intricate designs, and by the 1950s had become one of the most sought-after porcelain brands in the world. The white porcelain pieces, adorned with delicate floral designs and intricate details were highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Around 1956 the factory was relocated to a new location in Bad Staffelstein, near Kronach. In 1970 a more export-related business was taken in mind and the brand name was changed to "Kaiser Porzellan" because the name was more melodious.

During the 1990s the profitability of the porcelain business in Germany steadily decreased. Kaiser Porzellan as a family company declared insolvency in 2001. It was bought by PM Kapital, who later in 2010 also took over the Goebel Porzellan factory (also founded around 1872), famous for its Hummel figurines. Under the new ownership both factories still continue to operate successfully today.

How do you pack your items, will my item arrive safely?

Broken ceramics is a thing we do not like! Not only is it a waste of time and money, but it also (often) means the end for a rare and unique item, which was treasured and cared for by their previous owners. So we really want to avoid any damages during shipping!
We have lots of experience of shipping ceramics, and we have seen what works and what does not work to protect ceramics during transit. If we ship multiple items in one package, each item is carefully wrapped and kept well seperated from the other items. We use large boxes, with plenty of buffer all around the items, so the packages can withstand a lot of abuse. All our packages should be able to cope with a 1,5 m drop without the items getting damaged.

Do you take care of the environment?

Yes we do. We re-use packaging materials as much as possible, which means we rarely have to buy new materials for our packaging. Only foam peanuts are sometimes bought by us, in which case we choose starch based peanuts which are fully biodegradable, non-toxic and water-soluble.
Each year, we calculate the greenhouse gas emissions in CO2-equivalents caused by our shipping. We multiply that amount by 150% and then offset it in certified CO2 compensation projects based on tree planting / reforestation in Bolivia and Uganda. See https://treesforall.nl/en/project/ for more information on the projects.

How should I take care of my Dutch ceramics?

First of all, don't let them fall! Always handle them in a mindful way and put them in spots where they cannot be accidentally bumped over when cleaning or vacuuming. Some people put some (clean) sand in vases to make them more stable.
Second, don't clean them too often! Underglaze painted Gouda and Delftware can be perfectly cleaned with water if necessary, but often just dusting them off or polishing them up a bit with a soft dry cloth is enough. Overglaze painted items should not be cleaned too often.
The colours of ceramics do not fade in sunlight, so you can put them in bright spots where they look good. But do avoid large temperature differences, which will cause increased crazing in many Delftware and also Gouda type pieces.
